John 9M6XRO has safely returned home from his trip to Africa. He has made 9,500 QSO’s along the trip from South Africa, Mozambique and the Kingdom of Swaziland. A number of QSO’s were made on Top Band that the Japanese were thrilled with; some told him that these were the first ever top band QSO’s between Japan and Mozambique - John doesn’t know for sure, but he certainly made the JA’s happy.
John goes on to say:
Daniel/ZS6JR and I rigged the 68ft vertical in Swaziland and ran 30 x 20m radials. In C91 the two of us rigged all the ants which gave us the same type beams/4-Square but on a trailer mounted tower. In C91 we ran 30 x 40m radials for the low band vertical. Luckily the WX was cold as I am sure there would have been snakes in the field. In fact the South African proprietor of the Blue Anchor Inn said he would gave us a free beer for every snake we saw - and a free ride to hospital if we got bitten!! His XYL said he was getting too generous…. Later on in C91 we put up a Tennadyne T-8 Log Periodic on a second trailer mounted tower.
I am now in the process of designing 3 high quality QSL cards for John which should be ready to send in late August. John would like to thank everyone for the contacts and looks forward to working you soon from his home station 9M6XRO in Borneo.
