Musasi Miyamoto by MiyakoFujitani
I am always surprised to see that what I am talking when I teach has very much in common with the content of Book of Five Rings (GO RIN NO SHO), written by Musashi Miyamoto.Theory and method Performing a technique, when you deal with partner’s attacking hand, in order to grasp, stop or cut it down, think that hand can be replaced with sword or knife. While teaching, I always call attention on the fact that one must not grasp or catch partner’s hand. Do not move first sword or hand, but move the foot first. After that move your hand or sword, let the partner go on his move or perform another action. In The Water Book of the GoRinNoSho it is also written that one should move first the body, not the sword. Katsura Kogoro(Kido Kouin), who lived in troubled times of Bakumatsu, taught his pupils to cut with the body rather than sword. His best pupil Soji Okita faithfully transmitted this teaching to his pupils.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kido_Takayoshi
“To cut with the body” means the same as “to move foot first”, the basic principle I am always talking about and which was originally brought up by Miyamoto Musashi.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miyamoto_Musashi Dodging enemy’s hand (sword) is not a purpose but a method, a preparatory action for cut and throw.

Judo&Aikido
Based on my experience, judokas are good at aikido too.
There are, however, other martial arts that emphasize the use of strength, and that may result in a waste of energy when practising aikido.
People practising judo train in a competitive way. On the other hand, there's no competition at all in aikido. There are lots of meanings behind
this, and one would be avoiding to hurt your opponent. Nevertheless, the fact of not having any contest doesn't mean that you can't see techniques
performed in a powerful way.

Because the uke (a disciple receiving the technique) doesn't pose resistance to the attacker, masters and high-ranked aikidokas get overconfident
and perform techniques in a wrong way that may be dangerous for the uke, as they don't mind the opponent anymore, just themselves. In the end this
behaviour results in arrogant, reckless and pretentious techniques. I guess that Steve Seagal's movies had a great impact on this understanding of aikido.
However, when performing techniques supposed to flow, aspects like the stability of the uke's body when falling, footwork and leg movements are not taken
into account seriously enough. In judo, getting wrong the position of the feet and the amount of energy you place in them to resist attacks means being thrown
and hitting the floor, doesn't it?

Aikido also stresses sword's techniques, as well as how armpits and elbows should fold. Also, I always consider that the ultimate secret when performing a technique lies in the direction
of the fingertips and the way your hands and the opponent's cross. The toes also have to point in the same direction. When I am teaching I try to make sure that my students don't get this wrong.
This principle and similar ones are exclusive to Tenshin Dojo and I always insist on their importance.

As Miyamoto Musashi explains in the Book of Five Rings, victories will eventually lead to a defeat if you just think that winning is all about throwing your opponent.
But as there is no competition in Aikido, I can't deny that there are advanced aikidokas that haven't learned that.
They keep practising in a wrong way, thinking they are good and strong. The uke, the disciple, receives the technique with a strong will, bewitched by the attacker.

It's very sad to witness how so many techniques nowadays go against the heart and essence of Aikido.

That's the reason why I believe judokas deserve great respect.
People learning aikido are well-intentioned. To keep their feelings and spirit on the good track, we all need to understand Aikido's soul.

We shouldn't be dazzled by the look of things. If we step away from theory, chances are matches in judo may be lost too, right?
"Why did I lose?". To get to the answer we have to learn the reason behind the defeat and the principles behind a technique. And that can't be done without a theory.

Is this a Aikido?
He's a direct disciple of Aikido's founder. Is this a Aikido? Aikido using the strenght of the oppponent?...Incredible use of arms and body's power, don't you think? If I was going to perform the sametechniques, I guess I would dislocate my shoulder. The hip would also twist and get hurted.I wouldn't do that, not at all.

Los Angeles Times
Japan's massive earthquake has little effect on culture's impeccable manners
Some resent the stifling conformity that can accompany social mores such as these. Even in modern-day Japan, speaking one's mind or making an overt demand can lead to ostracization. Young people, in particular, sometimes feel shackled by rigid conventions of behavior that can seem as arcane as a Kabuki drama.

But in a country where people with a case of the sniffles wear surgical masks in public to avoid infecting anyone, most people seemed determined not to let their anxieties show. That particularly included those attending to customers.

"I am trying hard not to let people see how scared I am," said Masaki Tajima, a hotel clerk in Utsunomiya, north of Tokyo.

It is very important. maai and Timing
When you perform a martial art technique, it is a mistake to always move backward before doing a technique. In case of martial arts, you would lose if you take wrong Maai. In other words, you could die. Maai means the distance you take from an opponent at your convenience. It is crucial that you take Maai skillfully in an instant depending on your opponent’s length of arms, height, knife, sword and length of the weapons.
There are some techniques that require moving backward. In such cases, you need to strike vital points of your opponent before moving backward. It would be a mistake for any techniques to move backward earlier than doing a technique on your opponent.
Why, you may ask? The reason is that you might create Maai to your opponent’s advantage. Your opponent is able to cut you by a knife or strike you with his/her fist.
Aikido utilizes Irimi. Irimi means entering into your opponent’s space or getting close to him/her, in other words, becoming one with your opponent. I was taught that Irimi makes two people to become one.

At the time when the founder was alive, someone who defended against the founder said “I was already trapped by the founder’s technique at the moment when he disappeared from my eyesight”. If you move backward, you are not able to perform this kind of technique because you are in a place where your opponent sees you. It means that you are in a position where a fist may easily strike you. In addition, a number of techniques nowadays are not correctly utilizing Hanmi.

Martial arts and sports have all correct theories. bat,,,
We are moved the place of residence to the corona. The Aikido Dojo field place is a move.

The technique for disregarding the theory sees very a lot of aikidoes without the tournament. It is a very bad thing.

I have been studying and teaching Aikido for 46 years.
I have had a chance to watch many videos... Is it Aikido, Jujitsu, or Karate?
I cannot understand them.
Uke (partner) does nothing.
The timing is bad. It is all wrong. In Aikido, the goal is not to grab Uke's hand.
If you try to do grab the hand, elbow goes up, exposing your side. Your side is a very weak part of your body.
In budo (martial arts) as in sado (tea ceremony), your body position should be like a triangle, with the points being your feet, hands and elbows.
They lack an understanding of the basics.
Whether sitting or standing, it is still a triangle.
Since Aikido does not have competitions, Uke often becomes passive, continuing down a path of misguided and vain budo.
I am sorry for the students learning such Aikido.

It is very sad....
