Middleton Grange School情報以下の通りです。(取り急ぎ原文をアップします)

Dear Parents and Care-givers,

It was good to see many of our Year 10-13 pupils this week for a fun day out at Hanmer Springs and some English lessons on Friday at the venue around the corner from our school. The good news is that the school is preparing to open this coming week. Here is the letter from our Principal, Mr Vanderpyl. Please read carefully. We will phone the parents, guardians or homestays of all pupils once we have the confirmed first day back.

Thank you very much for your patience in waiting to hear when Middleton Grange School would reopen. The Board has not been allowed to make a decision on this because we have been and remain under Civil Defence rules. We have however been busy getting ready so that when we are able to make a decision, it can be done so quickly. Be assured that we are not holding information as to when the school might or might not reopen, as we have received information from the Civil Defence or the Ministry of Education we have passed this on.

There is a Ministry of Education process we have to follow before we can reopen the school. It is a comprehensive list, but in summary it is:

1. Civil defence rules to be lifted or adapted for schools. (They have already adapted them so that adults are allowed on the school site, but NO pupils as yet)

2. Structural Engineers report (this has been done and sent to the Ministry of Education)

3. Repair work as needed (this has been done)

4. Water quality (we have had it tested and it is clear, but pupils must bring their own bottled water until the CCC lifts the boil water condition. We will have some boiled water on site for contingencies)

5. Sewerage working (it is working)

6. Staff are physically and emotionally safe to return (we contacted our staff last weekend and will do so again this weekend)

7. Transport available (there will be small changes to school bus services, routes 2 and 3, these will be communicated to you next week and via the website)

8. Pupil welfare needs can be met (we will have counselling staff on site for the week and we will also allow parents to stay at school during the day if they wish – the staffroom will be available for tea and coffee.)

Our plan is this:

Day 1 (Tuesday 8th March) – Teacher Only Day. This is to allow staff to meet together for the first time since February 22nd, to redesign curriculum plans, hear from the guidance counsellors, and get their classrooms ready for pupils.

Day 2 (Wednesday 9th March) – pupils return ASSUMING we have MOE clearance. The Board cannot allow pupils on site unless we have this approval from the Ministry of Education. . This will be a late start to the day, beginning at 9.30am. While we would like all pupils to return we understand that some in the Eastern Suburbs may find this a little difficult so do not feel under compulsion to return your child to school if there are greater home needs. I will email you early next week a programme for the morning where we will have an assembly etc. I will also email you our emergency procedures so that you can see how we deal with these types of emergencies. The Senior Leadership Team have met to review these and added some extra guidelines to ensure even greater safety for your children.

Please contact the school where there are particular needs we should be aware of for your children.

Please keep an eye on the school website which I hope will be updated later today to reflect this information.

I am sure that all of you will have either a close connection or know of someone who has tragically died in this earthquake. Our love and condolences go out to you and we know that the peace of our Lord is with you.

I want to mention in particular that Ryan Thompson (staff member) lost a younger brother Isaac in the earthquake. Isaac was an ex-pupil of Middleton Grange School.

Do talk and pray with your children about the return to school next week, pray also for staff and their readiness to recommence teaching and learning.

Please call our office 341 4054 for emergency numbers if required or the office on Monday if you have further questions.

Best wishes
